17TH MAY - 19TH MAY 2019

A weekend of Historical Events

Our Inaugural Pride weekend was an action packed weekend for all of our Committee and Volunteers.
Friday 17th you would have thought would just be a busy day trying to set everything up but it was so much more.
Our Chair Phill was in Oban High School all day with Police Scotland teaching about LGBTQ+ issues and hate crime. Our Treasurer Ed and now Secretary Anna were being interviewed for BBC Alba. Our Bus load of Volunteers arrived from Pride Life Glasgow. We had medium readings and a Ghost Hunt going on at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, all taking place as we were trying to set up the stage, lighting, dressing rooms, stalls and decorate to transform the Argyllshire Gathering Halls into our Pride Venue it was a busy day with the Busiest yet to come.

On the morning of Saturday 18th May, there was still lots to be done before our first Pride March including welcoming groups from High Schools all over Argyll at Oban High School. Welcoming our special guest speakers including the MSP for Equality  and the Elderly Christina McKelvie.

Our Pride March, was attend by approximately 500 which was amazing for our first Pride, we were delighted to be joined by Local MPs, Local MSPs and National MSPs.

Our March was well received from all in the town with many who were out on the street cheering us on, we even had staff coming out of shops to cheer us as well with some having decorated their windows with Rainbows to join in with the festivities.

Our stewards, who were made up of our Volunteers, Pride Life Glasgow, Volunteers, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) and other network volunteers to make up our fantastic team keeping everyone safe on our March.

Rainbow Ball 1.jpg

After a wonderful March and a fantastic family event in the afternoon, our team of volunteers transformed the Argyllshire Gathering Halls into a beautiful rainbow seated venue for our Rainbow Ball.

Once again our Rainbow Ball was hosted by the fabulous Crystal and was an evening full of entertainment to help us raise more funds to cover all the costs that we had incurred to run Oban pride.

At the ball we had more fabulous performers including Micheal T Oglivie, Dalia Black, Venus Guy Trapp and once again our headliner Leonie Voss.

A fabulous evening was had by all as we danced the night away.

There are lots more Images from Our March, Free Family Pride Afternoon and Rainbow Ball in our Gallery.
